Homestead Credit is given in accordance to the 1946 Homestead Act passed by Mississippi Legislature. Amount of homestead given increases with the value of the home, up to $75,000.00 assessed value or $300.00. Homestead exemption applications must be filed each year in the Tax Assessor's Office during a period from January 1 through April 1. You must also own your home and have your deed recorded in the Chancery Clerk's Office on or before January 1 to be eligible to file the first year.
