Distribution and Wholesale Trade Industry

The model for distribution and wholesale trade businesses has changed dramatically. In the past they were traditionally associated with railroad lines, seaports or major roads in the least desirable parts of a community. State of the art mega facilities have been rapidly appearing in rural areas on the outskirts of transportation and population centers. These facilities are now cropping up in even less traditional areas, often outside of the urban fringes.

These trends are being driven by a growth in the partnering of manufacturing and retail where logistics can be outsourced. The term third party logistics providers identifies many of these companies. They look continually to provide supply chain solutions to customers by focusing on value added capabilities which differentiate them from their competition.

This sector also includes businesses providing transportation of passengers and cargo, warehousing and storage of goods, scenic and sightseeing transportation, and support activities related to various modes of transportation.

Recent reports reveal that demand for transportation related goods and services represent over ten percent of the US economy, supporting nearly one eighth of US jobs.

There are 20 million people located within 250 miles of Alcorn County. An excellent four lane US highway network, US 45 and US 72 provide quality roadways for moving trucks. The Alliance owns quality sites in the industrial park well suited for this type of endeavor.

Railroads in Corinth also provide assets for distribution and wholesale trade. The Corinth Alcorn County Airport has a 6,500 foot runway with an Instrument Landing System. Infrastructure is varied for many types of opportunities.
